This week the third graders were discussing the element of line. The children were able to recall many of the lines they had learned about in the previous year when studying the artwork of Van Gogh. They were then introduced to the names and images of new lines and discussed how artists use line in their artwork. The students are using Geoff Slater’s line paintings as their inspiration to create their own artwork. They were asked to create a Christmas scene and use lines as their medium for adding color.
The fourth graders completed a cross curricular project based on their lessons in science. In art, the students were taught how to create a solar system mobile. They were given a template to follow for size but were asked to mix pastels to create the unique colors of the planets.
The fifth graders have been learning about and analyzing the work of Leonardo Da Vinci with a focus on The Mona Lisa. They were introduced to the painting and asked to think about how the image would be different if it was created today. Where would she be? How would she look?
The sixth graders were looking at the works of Romero Britto. They were asked to create a 3D sculpture made out of clay inspired by the bright abstract paintings of Britto.
